چکیده
Abstract Measurements of the surface velocity and texture a freely propagating shear jamming front in dense suspension are compared. The fields captured with particle image velocimetry (PIV), while is separated experiment by observing direct reflection on high-speed cameras. A method for quantifying features their orientation presented based fast Fourier transform localized windows. region that exhibits strong corresponds to solid-like jammed identified via PIV measurements. Moreover, within predominantly oriented same direction as eigenvectors strain tensor. Thus, from images free surface, our analysis able show contains information principle directions propagation front. Graphic

Jamming transitions in a schematic model of suspension rheology
– We study the steady-state response to applied stress in a simple scalar model of sheared colloids. Our model is based on a schematic (F2) model of the glass transition, with a memory term that depends on both stress and shear rate. For suitable parameters, we find transitions from a fluid to a nonergodic, jammed state, showing zero flow rate in an interval of applied stress. Although the jamm...
متن کاملDynamic texture spreading: probing the mechanisms of surface interpolation.
Dynamic texture spreading is a filling-in phenomenon where a colored pattern perceptually spreads onto an area confined by virtual contours in a multi-aperture motion display. The spreading effect is qualitatively similar to static texture spreading but widely surpasses it in strength, making it particularly suited for quantitative studies of visual interpolation processes. We first carried out...
متن کاملJamming III: Characterizing randomness via the entropy of jammed matter
The nature of randomness in disordered packings of frictional and frictionless spheres is investigated using theory and simulations of identical spherical grains. The entropy of the packings is defined through the force and volume ensemble of jammed matter and this is shown to be difficult to calculate analytically. A mesoscopic ensemble of isostatic states is then utilized in an effort to pred...
